We had a fun chance to drive to Texas with Adam's parents and his brother Marc a couple weekends ago. They sold their house in Houston and were going there to get the last of their stuff and fix it up a little, and they let us tag along. I will admit I am a horrible road-tripper, but it was really really fun. I'm pretty sure Marc was ready to strangle me by the time we got home, since I was being my obnoxious middle-child-self after being cooped up for so long, but maybe he's forgiven me by now!
We arrived on Friday evening and went straight to Los Cucos, their favorite Mexican restaurant, where we were definitely not disappointed. It was beyond delicious and we even tried to convince the waitress to move to Wyoming and start one there. It's depressing to think we won't get to eat there again for a LONG time. It's THAT good.
We also drove by the Houston temple that night because I had never seen it. It is so beautiful!
Saturday brought a pleasant surprise, as I had planned on cleaning and packing most of the day, and ended up shopping for 5 hours! Adam's mom and I had lunch and went shopping with her friend Viviana. We went to a section of downtown called Harwin, which is kind of like ChinaTown in a way. There are tons of shops filled with all kinds of stuff for really cheap. I ended up with some souvenir tshirts for Adam, JD and my dad, and a cute pair of shoes for $10. It was really fun to hang out with them and get to go to a place I had never been. That's the best part about going on trips for me!
That night we had another delicious meal, of course, this time at Salt Grass Steak House. We all stuffed ourselves until we couldn't move and then went to Adam's grandparents' house to play cards with the family. It was fun to see everyone we don't get to see very often.
Sunday we went to the Hammonds' old ward and saw a bunch of their old friends. After that Adam took me to a flea market near their house. I was in heaven! For some reason I think flea markets are so exciting and I just love looking at all the (mostly junk) stuff. I'm always sure a wonderful treasure is awaiting me and I think it's so fun to try and find it! I got a Texas star for our house and we also picked out an armadillo belt buckle for JD's birthday present.
Sunday afternoon we went to Adam's cousin Ryan's baptism, which was a really neat experience. The Spirit was really strong and I'm so glad we happened to be there that weekend so we could go.
We had Hammond family Sunday dinner over at his grandparents' house and their tradition of hot fudge sundaes after. His grandpa showed me a photo album of all the houses (including their cabin) they built together and told me stories about each one. It was really neat!
Monday we just finished up last-minute stuff and then headed out. I don't think any of us were ready to get back in that truck, but we piled in for another 24 hours!
Here are a few pictures from our trip:
